Mississauga City Council Appoints David Cook as Ward 1 Councillor

The City of Mississauga has appointed David Cook was Ward 1 Councillor.
The appointment will be effective immediately and the new Ward 1 Councillor will remain in office until the end of the current City Council term on November 30, 2018. David Cook will also be a member of the Region of Peel Council.
David Cook is a former Mississauga City Councillor having served three terms between 1980 and 1988.
At its meeting on January 25, City Council decided that the vacant office of Ward 1, formerly held by the late Councillor Jim Tovey, would be filled by appointment. The appointment process involved candidates submitting nomination forms and supporting documents. Each candidate also had an opportunity to address Council.
A total of 19 candidates participated in the appointment process. All forms and documents submitted by the applicants are a matter of public record, available in the Council meeting agenda.
For the next term of Council which runs from 2018 to 2022, the Councillor for Ward 1 position will be filled through the 2018 municipal election. The next City of Mississauga municipal election is on Monday, October 22, 2018. Visit www.mississaugavotes.ca for more information.
